Braiding Hair

If you've wanted to wear your hair in a braid but find it frustrating to do your own hair or you don't have luck braiding someone else's hair, check out these tips and you should be able to get a good looking braid in no time.

Braiding involves practice. Once you've got your fingers "trained" how to move when you braid hair, you should be able to braid hair in a matter of minutes.

Start with clean, dry hair. Use styling gel or a good spray to relax those frizzies. You want the hair to be as smooth and straight as possible.

Divide the hair into three sections. Tie off the tops with pipe cleaners if it is your first time braiding, it won't break the hair and it will leave your hands free to better handle the hair.

Place the left third of hair in your left hand, holding it with your index finger and thumb. Grasp the right third of hair and pull it towards the left third. Grab the middle section with either your right or left middle finger (whichever you're more comfortable with) and pull to the right third of hair. You just made the first full step for braiding.

Repeat the above steps and keep pulling the hair tight but not so tightly that it hurts. Continue braiding until you reach the end of the hair and then tie off with a snag free rubber band (they don't break hair), barrette or bow, as you like.
