If you use a metal curling iron, you're asking for a case of bubble hair, matter of fact you're waving a flag and tooting a horn to be in line for this common hair dilemma. Bubble hair is literally tiny bubbles at the end of your hair. It is normally caused by long term use of a metal curling iron. Most standard curling irons heat up between 240 and 350 degrees and if you consider that water boils at 212 degrees, You can see that you are basically boiling the water within your hair shafts when you repeated use a curling iron. Eventually, the steam created within the hair shaft will cause a bubble on the end of or towards the end of your hair, and then after a short period of time the hair will break off. When this happens repeatedly, you can wind up looking really shaggy. A good solution to avoiding bubble hair to use ceramic styling products when you style your hair. Chi makes a great line of curling irons and flat irons. The benefits of using a ceramic iron on your hair are many. The moist heat generated by a ceramic iron, which also has ceramic plates and coils will maintain an even temperature for your hair at all times, the negative ions produced will allow moisture to penetrate your hair shaft and if you're using a flat iron, you will be left with silky smooth, straight hair. Additionally, the cuticle of the hair is sealed and humidity is repelled, hence no high heat and no boiling of the hair shaft and no bubble hair. Best of all, using ceramic irons will lock in your hair color and slow the fade of your color that just happens over time. If you're using a metal curling iron, retire it this week and switch to a good ceramic model and get the hair you thought you could only get in the salon!

Your best friend showed up with a great new hair color and it gave you the bug to make a change too. Matter of fact since she looked so great in Champagne Blonde, you decide to try it too. So you buy the kit and color your hair and after doing the dramatic unwrapping in the mirror, you look ill. Matter of fact your skin tone looks positively green. What happened? Simple, you chose the wrong color for your skin tone. You can divide skin tones into two basic categories, warm and cool. If your Eyes are: dark brown, dark blue, grey blue or hazel with brown flecks and your skin is true olive, medium with no reddish coloring then you are a cooler type of person. If your Eyes are:light brown, light green, blue or turquoise, hazel with light flecks, and your skin is light, freckled, brown with pink undertones or golden undertones, or you are ruddy complected then you would fall into the warm category. It's easy to follow once you learn your type, if you have a warm tones to your complection, cool it down with complementary colors. Ditto if you have a cool coloring. Choose warmer colors to cancel out your cooler undertones and bring life to your hair and complection. On the color box itself, you'll see a listing of tones. The term tone refers to whether a color is warm or cool. The warm colors are red, orange and yellow. In looking at hair coloring boxes you may have noticed they have names like golden brown and warm brown this is to let you know that the undertone of the hair color is warm. You can read the cool colors the same way. You will see darkest ash blonde or ash brown, then you have a chosen a color from the cool palette. Once you know the ropes, it's easy to pick the best color for your hair!

If your hair is prone to tangling and matting, you probably dread each and every shampoo and creme rinse because of the sheer pain of brushing out your hair. Actually, tangling and matting is made worse by brushing wet hair since there is more friction against the brush in wet hair than in dry hair. A good rule of thumb is after shampooing your hair, use a good detangler to wide toothed comb to comb your hair as it dries. This will lessen the friction on your hair and result in almost no tangling and you won't be damaging your hair by ripping through tangles and snarls. Detanglers used to be just creme rinse solutions that were cut with water and chemicals to dilute it. The result was a head of hair that wasn't tangled but held around your head in a limp and lifeless mass. If that has kept you from trying the detanglers of today, think again, they have really changed! There are a number of good detangling products available such as Wella Color Preserve Detangler & Leave-In Detangler not only leaves your hair tangle free but also stops your hair color from fading. This detangler you just spray on and leave in and it won't weigh down or make your hair limp. ARTec Kiwi Leave-In Detangler is a great choice to use if you live in a humid environment. This is also a leave in product that won't leave your hair plastered around your face. Paul Mitchell The Detangler is a great product as is Formulas Ecoly Sage Weightless Conditioner & Detangler which is light-weight even among detanglers and leaves your hair smelling fresh and feeling light. Alterna even has a detangler that will strengthen your curls and allow them to spring back to life without tangling your 'do. There are a number of great solutions to your tangled hair, you don't have to dread your next hair washing, get a good detangler and finally enjoy styling your hair again!
