If you have recently dyed your hair black or were lucky enough to be born with ebony tresses, what you wear can make a lot of difference in the way you look. And not just styles of clothing, but colors can play an important role in your overall "look". When you're exploring what colors to wear forget about what you favorite color is, instead concentrate on the colors that look best with your hair color and skin tones. One woman reported that every time she wore her favorite blouse in a pale yellow, people would stop her and ask her if she felt all right. She finally glanced herself in a mirror in a store when she was wearing her favorite yellow blouse and she saw something she never saw in the lighting in her home, the fluorescent lighting of the store was making her skin color appear green around the yellow blouse. Invest in a mirror that has different lighting settings such as daylight, office and more. Your make-up and clothing choices that you make in your natural daylight lit bedroom may look far different when you go to your fluorescently lit office. Good best for black hair are bold, vivid primary colors. Black and stark white. Primary red, blue, and lemon yellow. Hot pink and members of the blue green family. If your skin is lighter you can look dazzling in navy blue. Icy and cooler pastel colors in the blue and purple family also look stunning with black hair and darker skin. No matter what your skin tone, avoid soft yellows, soft mauves or rose shades and peaches, they will drain the color from your face and make you appear sickly looking. Now that you know some great choices for your black hair, add a few new items to your wardrobe and get out there and be dazzling for spring.

If you've wanted to wear your hair in a braid but find it frustrating to do your own hair or you don't have luck braiding someone else's hair, check out these tips and you should be able to get a good looking braid in no time. Braiding involves practice. Once you've got your fingers "trained" how to move when you braid hair, you should be able to braid hair in a matter of minutes. Start with clean, dry hair. Use styling gel or a good spray to relax those frizzies. You want the hair to be as smooth and straight as possible. Divide the hair into three sections. Tie off the tops with pipe cleaners if it is your first time braiding, it won't break the hair and it will leave your hands free to better handle the hair. Place the left third of hair in your left hand, holding it with your index finger and thumb. Grasp the right third of hair and pull it towards the left third. Grab the middle section with either your right or left middle finger (whichever you're more comfortable with) and pull to the right third of hair. You just made the first full step for braiding. Repeat the above steps and keep pulling the hair tight but not so tightly that it hurts. Continue braiding until you reach the end of the hair and then tie off with a snag free rubber band (they don't break hair), barrette or bow, as you like.

Do your hands look their best all the way down to your fingernails? If they don't, there are some easy steps to take to make your nails look eye-catching. First off, stop biting your nails. Saliva weakens fingernails because saliva has the job of starting digestion and nails are basically a protein substance. Biting those weakened nails leads to some raggedy looking nails. Every time you nervously put your finger to your mouth and realize what you're doing, move your hand to do something else. Soon it will become a habit to not put your finger in your mouth and you won't be biting your nails whenever you are nervous. Keep your nails clean and file them regularly to keep them smooth and without edges that might "catch" on the odd corner or article of clothing. Initially, when you make the decision to grow your nails out, file them down to approximately the same length so you can have evenly growing nails. If your fingernails are extremely ragged, don't worry. Just file your nails down and try to get a good even edge, it may take a couple of weeks to just get your nails ready to grow, but it's worth it. When you file your nails, use one direction only with your fingernail file or emery board. Don't saw the file across your nail. This will actually weaken it. It takes a little practice to learn to use the file in one direction only, but your fingernails will thank you for it. Another tip, carry a nail file with you at all times, in your purse, in your desk and keep one handy in a couple of different rooms in your house. When you break a nail, file it immediately to prevent further damage. Anytime you file your nails, apply a coat of nail hardener. Both OPI and Nailtiques have superb products for keeping your nails looking sharp. After the nail hardener has dried completely, apply lotion to your hands and give your fingernails a light rub. Moisturizing your hands keeps your nails moist as well and prevents breakage, plus it keeps your hands looking great! Growing your nails as long as you want them to be, can take up to 6 months of careful tending. If you want an immediate fix, try acrylic nails.

Once you have split ends, you can't truly mend them or completely repair them, however there are a good number of products you can use and ways to treat them. First of all, when you wash your hair, be sure to use conditioner and a good spray on conditioner is a great way to keep your hair moisturized so you can avoid getting split ends. Use a shampoo that is gentle and has a conditioner. Also use a spray leave in conditioner to further keep your hair from drying out. Don't comb your hair when it is wet. Many people make the mistake of pulling a comb or brush roughly through their hair when it is wet and hair is broken and damaged. Natural bristle brushes are made to not pull your hair or break it off when you brush through it. Cool it with the curling irons. If you are still using a metal curling iron, make the switch to the hair friendly ceramic styling tools. Your hair will thank you for it. If you happen to live in a hot and sunny environment, be sure to use a shampoo with a sunscreen included in the ingredients. Additionally, wear a hat when you're going to be out in the sun for any length of time. If you swim, cover your hair with a haircap as chlorine and other pool chemicals can dry out your hair and leave it vulnerable for damage. If do you wind up with split ends, the only sure cure is to have them trimmed off. Have the split ends cut just above where the split on the end stops on the hair shaft. This will stop the hair from splitting upwards any further. After getting your split ends trimmed, be sure to take care of your hair and you won't have to deal with split ends on your hair any longer!
